Ouch

Somehow or another I’ve injured my back. I don’t know how I did it. It happened over a period of a few days, and of course I ignored it. By Christmas Day I was being very careful with my movements.

It does not hurt when I’m sitting down or when I’m standing up but it does hurt when I sit down or lay down or stand up – during the transition. Laying down to sleep seems comfortable at first, but last night I awoke with some discomfort in the dead of night and settled for a few more hours sleep in a reclining chair.

I’m convinced it’s a muscle issue, and if that’s the case I’m pretty sure it will improve greatly over the next few days. I suppose if I’m wrong about that, I’ll know it soon enough, and early in January I’ll go see my doctor.

I sure hope that you are well on your way to 100%. Even though I only recall it through a painkiller-induced fog, I will never forget the misery of the Christmas I spent with a gibbled back. The worst!

I slept for a couple nights in a reclining chair that took the pressure off my back and that helped tremendously. I also treated it with an occasional shot of very very good single malt scotch, whose cure-all properties and psychological benefits are legend. Today, I would say I’m 80% better.

btw…back injuries can last weeks as they are healing. Time is the best recovery from an injury. It sounds like it is a muscle. You can see a doctor but they probably will suggest bed rest. Also make sure you take about 4 ibuprofen to ease the pain. Also will help you sleep. You NEED to sleep two or three nights in a row for 7-9 or so hours.

My back same thing…same exact description of pain…as I transitioned. I had a sore back the whole month of November. Actually could not walk without a limp. Couldn’t move up and down…awful. I had to work through it though. I started reading on the internet about how to treat a sore back…and 70 percent of back injuries recover with bedrest. So At one point in November…I had two days off. I set up a bed in front of the tv and stayed in it for two days. One night I slept for 14 hours. I also took 4 ibuprofen every 6 hours. Guess what? Finally the pain changed. With that change a couple days later the pain waned. And nw… am doing sit up and yoga to hopefully never have a sore back again!

Have your say...
