The Gerrard India Bazaar is located along Gerrard St in Toronto, roughly between Greenwood and Coxwell. It grew in the early 70s around the Naaz Theatre, which screened Bollywood and Pakistani films. Today, some South Asian businesses remain, but this area does not seem anywhere near as bustling and vital as I remember it from previous visits several years ago. I filmed at a quiet time, mid-day on a Monday but still I was struck by how little pedestrian and automobile traffic there was. I bought some refreshing (but expensive) sugarcane juice on the street. This reminded me of Vietnam where people pressing sugarcane are a common sight.
