Go

The battle continued last night as Vox and I played five games of go.

Game 1

Mister Anchovy: White Vox: Black White wins

Off to a good start.

Game 2

Mister Anchovy: White Vox: Black White wins

I trapped his group up on the top left smartly.

Game 3

Mister Anchovy: White Vox: Black Black wins

I can hardly bear to look at this one. Although I trapped three of Vox’s groups, he destroyed my large group on the lower right side, cutting off their eye shape and cruelly strangling them. Scurvy dog.

Game 4

Mister Anchovy: Black Vox: White White wins

Vox beat me handily this game. I couldn’t create weaknesses in his positions and I needed to do some business somewhere to win.

Game 5

Mister Anchovy: Black Vox: White Black wins

This was the rubber game after a split in the first two. It was a hard fought game too. Vox’s large group at the bottom right is dead. I was able to create an internal ko. His best ko threat was against my smaller group along the top edge on the left. I let them die and destroyed Vox’s group for the win.

i too love the photos. They tell quite the interesting story. And quite remarkably, had pictures been taken of each of the thousands of games we have played, i do not think any 2 would be the same.

Not to pick nits, but it seems you got the caption for the second game reversed in terms of who played which stones and the colour of the winning side.

Yes of course, Vox, I reversed the caption….but corrected it with my comment about trapping your group. A dyslexic moment?…or perhaps a typo. Either way though your group was toast. Har!

I don’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me earlier to photograph the games. After a session, I tend to merge the group of games into one in my little brain, and the photos remind me of what really happened. I’m going to try to make a habit of documenting them this way.

As you’ll recall, I tried once to document the games on a diagram as they’re played, but I found it distracted me and I played very poorly. A single photo tells quite a story.

I can see why you lost games 3 and 4 from the photos. In game 1 and 2 you were both drinking what looks like coffee from mugs. For game 3 you switched to drinking something from a glass while Vox stayed with the coffee. Clearly you should have stayed with the coffee and stayed away from the demon rum.

I don’t know this game at all, but it looks challenging! I love board games and yet we only seem to play them at Christmas or at the cottage.

Go is a lifetime study. It just gets better and better. I’ve been playing Vox for over 20+ years and we’ve played several thousand games.

What no new pictures of Memphis!? How is she doing without her 4 legged canine friends?
    See you soon.
