There are a number of useful lessons here…
1)Carry a whistle. There are some which can be easily heard a half mile away
2)Never go into the wilderness without at least one smoker in the group. First off the guy will carry a bic lighter and you can light a fire and keep war and maybe signal your location. If that fails, when the smoker runs outta cigarettes he will lead the group out of the woods in a hurry
3)Never abandon your picking bucket. How dumb is that? In 6 days I bet they could have collected a mountain of tasty edibles!
4)Never hide in a hollow tree if you need someone to find you. Most rescue folks dont look in hollow trees.
