Los Tigres song banned

The Mexican band, Los Tigres del Nortes have been playing narcocorridos for years – ballads about drug lords and their battles with the authorities. The band was to play at a major awards show until one of their tunes was banned. The band pulled out of the show.1000229

The band considers themselves to be realists, not apologists. Here’s a quote from the same article I linked to above:

“The song speaks of all the problems in Mexico, through a fable with little animals,” he said. “We wanted to deal with the problems our government has — narcotics trafficking, the violence, what we already know about and live. There is nothing to offend anyone, it is simply a representation of what is happening to us.”

Let me just say that here at Anchovy World Headquarters, we don’t much appreciate censorship. Good for the band for pulling out of the show.

Thanks to East Texas Red for pointing me to this story.

you either have freedom of speech or you haven’t. There aren’t any grey areas. If you have it you might not always like what you hear but be proud you have it and defend the individuals right to offend you with words.

The UK had it until some numb nuts elected the most corrupt govt this democracy(?) has ever known.

Now? You dare to critisise the Muzzies for example and you’re Islamophobic. Say you’d prefer gay men not to kiss in front of children in the street and you’re homophobic.

    I think I’m just getting old…..and tired….

Tell the band they’d be no better off over here…not anymore…:-(

Have your say...
