How wonderful! I bet you feel just awesome. Congrats!

A side note: a group from Toronto called Quartetto Gelato — heard of them? — came to our tiny little western town tonight. They were spectacular. The 4x World Accordion Champion, Alexander Sevastian, quite simply blew my mind. I thought of you and hope you get a chance to see him sometime. Sounds from their website, http://quartettogelato.ca/index.php , like they are pretty prolific performers. Just excellent.

Whoo! You’re not messing around. Best of luck with the rest of your shrinkage, but don’t get discouraged if it slows. You’ll get there eventually.

No point messing around…why change my diet for no reason? I’ve decided to take the trouble to lose the pounds and so I’m doing it. Most of the time I haven’t had a hard time with it.

In mid-October, I started on the train, right after Canadian Thanksgiving. There really isn’t any secret. It’s all about focusing on a goal and staying the course. I go about it like this. I eat breakfast religiously – cereal with fruit and 1% milk and a coffee. When I get to work I have 2 fat free yogourts. Lunch is raw vegetables, fruit, a little bit of protein like a piece of meat or cheese or a hard boiled egg and some melba toasts. For dinner I usually have a little meat and lots of veggies. Once each week or so I have a bigger dinner and enjoy stuff I’ve been avoiding, like bread. I might have bread once every two weeks and that’s it. I take good long walks with my dog Memphis for exercise.

Tonight was a bit of a celebration, having lost 50 lbs + our friend K was over for dinner so there was gumbo and bread involved and red wine and apple/blueberry crisp. Tomorrow it’s back on the train.

This weekend, I’m going to start swimming two or three times each week, which should also help.

I am inspired. I shall start today.

To lose 50 pounds in three months is quite amazing. Sounds like a basic low-carb diet, which I’m also told is good for keeping down inflammation (important for inhibiting tumour regrowth). I really should have started this a year ago, but better late than never.

I need to lose 25 kilos (55 pounds) and would ideally like to lose 30. Will let you know how it goes.

Good luck Az. A couple suggestions….keep lots of fresh veggies in the fridge…and some hard-boiled eggs for quick protein when you need it….always eat breakfast….eat lots of little meals….eat two fruits every day….

Hard-boiled eggs are an excellent suggestion. Stocked up on veg today and will make sure there are always lots of carrots. Fruit will be harder for me. Might have to go back to making smoothies again.

Thanks again for the inspiration! It came just at the right time.
