Find the Possum

This morning at about 6:00 we were enjoying coffee when Tuffy P suddenly exclaimed, Look, Look, there’s a possum in our back yard. I grabbed the camera and headed out onto the deck, a sight for sore eyes I’m sure in my pjs and slippers.

Sorry about the lousy picture quality. It was after all very early in the morning and I was hurrying to get a shot before the little critter disappeared into the trees. If you don’t see it right away, the possum is just on the left of the garden on the right. I had heard we had some here in the neighbourhood, but this is the first one I’ve seen.

Oh, its so cute. There was one I would see occasionally in our backyard in Toronto.

I didn’t realize they weren’t native to Canada.

    Oh, he is so cute.

Last week i was on the phone with tiff when I blurted out” Oh I just saw an aardvark!’

I meant to say possum. But tiff was …”where in real life or Farmville?”

(sometimes i check my game while talking to her on the phone)

“No, in real life, in the back alley… Oh no, I mean it’s a possum”

And we start to laugh because I said, “they have the same sillouette and I forgot the word for possum”

And Tiff says “well one has armour but they look the same”

    “right” said I…

and then we started laughing again because we had confused aardvark with armadillo.

what a typical conversation for us to have…

Wow! I had no idea that there were possums in Toronto! That is a great shot.

I remember the first and only time that we saw a raccoon in our yard in Calgary. It was sleeping on the roof of our playhouse and it freaked the cat out so much that she didn’t know what to say.
