When was the first talkie movie made? The Jazz Singer (that Jolson thing) is generally accepted as the first talking movie and it was made in 1927 some 44 years after that vid was purported to be made. The first ever “sound film” shown publicly was apparently 1900 in Paris and the quality was reportedly pretty grim. The issue was the sound both in getting anything like decent quality and in syncing it to the movie. I very seriously doubt that 16 years before this someone made a movie of some guy playing a banjo in which both the sound and the picture were pretty decent and the sound is perfectly in sync. I think the technology just wasnt in existence and even if some geek in a basement had some sort of experimental gear happening I doubt the technology to play it back would have survived if it was experimental. The first commercial technology didnt really happen until some 44 years after 1884 and 44 years is a long long time in the world of technology.

I don’t know, Salvelinas, but check out the other videos posted by the same guy. There are several that are positioned as if they are really old. In any case, I quite liked it.

I liked it too but I think it is a good fake.

Is that supposed to be a tune written in 1884 and performed in 2011? If it is supposed to be something recorded in 1884 I am not buying into it.
