The Orphan Train

Here’s another tune by U. Utah Phillips, the Golden Voice of the Great Southwest, performed by the Dry Branch Fire Squad. This is the Orphan Train and it’s a true story.

That reminds me that rumour has it that my brother the trout, Salvelinas Fontinalis, has taken up the banjo. It’s only fitting that I present him with some banjo jokes, also by the Dry Branch Fire Squad.

Har! The only difference between a banjo and a trampoline…you take your shoes off before you jump on a trampoline.

Ok I have tried to resist this but when somebody lobs one right over the plate…

A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and one night he’s doing a show in a small town in Ontario.

With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual Accordion Player jokes, starting with the guy who let his accordion fall off the table…

Suddenly, a locally known accordion player in the 4th row stands on his chair and starts shouting: ‘I’ve heard enough of your stupid accordion player jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype accordion players that way? What does the particular talent of a person have to do with his or her worth as a human being?

It’s guys like you who keep accordion players like me from being respected at work and in the community, and from reaching our full potential as a person. Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only accordion players, but musicians in general who play polkas…and all in the name of humor!’

The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the accordion player yells, ‘You stay out of this, mister! I’m talking to that little jerk on your knee’.

Im glad you posted that joke video. See, I had heard some of that stuff previously but it all sounded so reasonable that I had no idea they were jokes rather than just someone offering words of wisdom.

Love that orphan song, but I can’t say the banjo jokes will come in handy anytime soon. ;D

Have your say...
