I wonder how it feels to live in a city that has been immortalized by a song? It turns out there is a song about Toronto, called The Toronto Song by Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie, but let’s just agree that The Toronto Song doesn’t really count….
Here’s Wilbert Harrison performing one of my fave tunes ever, Kansas City.
What’s your favourite city song?
I didn’t even find this song funny because everyone knows that all you have to do is move into the U.S.A. and go to “Sweet Home Chicago” where it’s just a lil’ Windy…and the politics are peachy keen….and there is NO VIOLENCE…and {etc., etc.,}…..
Having been raised in Winnipeg, it’s no real surprise that I am partial to the Weakerthans’ song One Great City. It’s also a great song, that gets the audience gleefully belting out the “I hate Winnipeg” chorus, despite the fact that it’s actually a love song to Winnipeg.
