Living Donor Appreciation night UHN Health Network Multi-Organ Transplant Program, St. Michael’s Hospital Renal Transplant Program and The Hospital for Sick Children

LivingDonorNight1

Tuffy P posting tonight. I skipped dog walking tonight to head over to the Westin Prince Hotel in TO, with the amazing Jocelyn by my side! Tonight was a celebration night hosted by the inspiring Doctors and their Transplant teams from the UHN (University Health Network Multi-Organ Transplant Program), St. Michael’s Hospital Renal Transplant Program and The Hospital for Sick Kids.  The stories around our table were inspiring. We heard about the donation of a kidney to help save a brother’s life, the donation of a portion of liver to help save a niece’s life, another donation of a portion of liver by a young woman to help save her mom’s dear friend’s life.  And there was a young woman at our table with her daughter and husband whose donor surgery anniversary was today, who donated a portion of her liver to save her young neice’s life.  It was incredible! The stories continued from the main podium.  The Dr.’s had pre selected 3 living donors who were asked to share their story of donation with the room  The last to speak, Mr. Dickson – donated a portion of his liver to his then eight year old son, and a kidney to his two year old daughter – both patients at Sick Kids.  Mr. Kelly spoke about the day after his kidney donation to his dad, and his dad came to see him – so elated with how well he felt from his recovery room the very next day.  Ms. Pattison spoke about the calm she felt as she was going into OR, ready to donate her kidney to save a friend’s life at St. Michael’s.  The night concluded with the Dr’s inviting the donors to come up to the front in 2 lines to receive the first Ontario pins of appreciation to living donors from the respective Hospital teams that conducted their surgery. It was great to see Dr. Levy and Dr. Grant again, to share this night with Joce, and to share recovery stories with other donors – as each one is special.  Thanks to the behind the scenes team that put tonight together- it was full of special, memorable moments.  Interested?
