Answers to random-assed questions

These questions were posed on The Shameful Sheep. Changing words like favourite and colour to Canadian spelling.

  1. Who are you named after?

I was named after my father’s big brother Eugene. I didn’t know my uncle. He left Canada as a young man and moved to America to seek his fortune. When I was growing up, he was living near Chesterton Illinois and before that in Chicago, where he made hand-made violins and violas.

  2. Do you like your handwriting.

No. It’s all over the place and and at times is unreadable.

  3.  What is your fave lunchmeat?

  4. Longest relationship

    with Tuffy P!

  5. Do you still have your tonsils?

  6. Would you bungee jump?

No way to all that crazy-assed danger/speed/heights stuff.

  7. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?

    Of course

  8. Favourite ice cream?

I like the simple flavours without chunks wrecking the texture.

  9. What is the first thing you notice about people?

Never thought about it. I suspect it depends on the person.

  10. Football or baseball

Baseball. I like baseball even though its dreadfully slow. I used to follow it closely until there was a strike quite a few years ago, when the owners and players fought over who got more millions. I liked listening to it in the studio while I worked on paintings because it is so conversational. These days I’m a bandwagon jumper and watch toward the end of season when the Jays do well. I used to follow Canadian football but these days football bores me wherever its played. For some strange reason I cannot explain, I really like watching curling.

  11. What colour pants are you wearing?

    Black jeans

  12. Last thing you ate?

A banana, the breakfast of champions

  13. If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?

Green. This question reminds me I knew a kid in grade school who ate crayons. He preferred the big thick ones to the normal sized crayons, and he liked all the colours equally.

  14. Favourite smell?

I have a strong memory of being able to smell Mom’s cabbage rolls from a block away, and so that’s a strong comfort food smell for me. I also love the smell of just about any braise enveloping the house. Oh and I love the smell of bbq. We used to have a cat named Jerry who loved the smell of bbq. He would pace back and forth, waiting for it to be ready. Jerry was a street cat. He adopted us when we were living in Little Portugal here in Toronto and he had a serious weakness for Portuguese grilled chicken with hot sauce.

  15. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?

Tuffy P. I called her from Huntsville Ontario yesterday.

  16. Hair Colour

Brownish. My beard has turned partly light grey.

  17. Eye colour

    Greyish blue

  18. Favourite foods to eat?

  19. Scary movies or happy endings?

  20. Last movie you watched?

    Hidden Figures

  21. Favourite holiday

I enjoy holidays that include family dinners (whether or not I’m doing the cooking). At Christmas I like to make one or more of the Polish foods we used to have when I was growing up, like meat sticks and cabbage rolls and pierogi.

  22. Beer or wine

  23. Night owl or early bed?

For years I worked afternoons/evenings and painted in the studio late after that, so wouldn’t awake until the crack of noon. These days we get up early, and usually go to bed early, although one evening per week I stay up late and play Go.

  24. Favourite day of the week?

Since I retired from the work-a-day world, I have no sense time.

  25. Which three of your favourite bloggers do you want to know more about?

I don’t tag people for this kind of thing, but I’d be happy to read your responses. If you decide to answer these questions on your blog, please let me know in the comments here.

  1. I learned a thing or two that we obviously never covered the time we dined together! And, really, who could possibly resist watching curling?

I will play along but not for a week or so. Looks like fun!
