My bird friends were waiting when I went out to refill the feeders in the snow this morning. It took Mr. Cardinal and his buddies all of 15 seconds to get on the feeders after I filled them.

I think feeding the birds in winter is one of the really great easy things people can do to give a bit back to nature. The fact that the birds are there waiting for you shows that they are depending on you to help them out during the bad weather. I will never forget one really cold winter when we found a dead frozen dove on the wood pile on the porch. My guess is he came onto the porch seeking shelter from the minus 30C temperatures but it still wasnt enough. It is easy to think that the birds will be just fine if we dont try to help them but that isnt always the truth.
