Who says Mister Anchovy doesn’t listen to “emerging artists”? Eh? Just forget for a second that Justin Townes Earle is the son of a really fantastic songwriter and performer, and a personal fave of mine, Steve Earle, and forget for a second that he was named after the late great Townes Van Zandt (now that must have been a hell of a burdon). Instead, listen to this great tune and the interview that follows it. He can’t be that good, can he? Let’s try They Killed John Henry. This is making me happy, friends, very happy. Here he is at SXSW. Ok. Ain’t Glad I’m Leavin’. Yeah, I’m going overboard. I know it. One more. Here his is playing one of his dad’s songs, Tom Ames’ Prayer.
Har!
I lied. One more. Leadbelly’s Midnight Special.
Why, Mr Anchovy, I do believe you are smitten!
He surely is worth all the buzz he’s been recieving lately, though. Thanks for posting these.
Well Barbara, I was prepared to dismiss this guy as someone trying to make a career in the footsteps of his father. I take back those bad thoughts. I’m impressed. Smitten may be taking it a wee bit far, but impressed for sure.
I think I remember hearing Steve Earle on a radio station over here a long time ago.
On the other hand I think I remember my own name sometimes…;-)
If you haven’t heard much Steve Earle, I suggest you start with Il Corizon or Transcendental Blues or possibly The Mountain. He’s a guy who has had two careers in a way, since he dropped out of everything as a result of drug addiction when messed him up pretty good. Then he had a re-emergence in a really big way.
Yeah, he’s good. He’s related to the scene with the Felice Brothers and Welch and Coner Oberst I posted a few videos of last week. He’s delightful isn’t he?
