My brother Salvelinas finds these all the time up near Fontinalis World Headquarters. These were the first ones I’ve found. There were only these two and one more around, and when I found them, I scoured the area around them very carefully. There were lots of little red waxy caps around though, and from a distance, they look similar enough that I almost didn’t squat down for a closer look at these.
These are very tasty mushrooms.

That’s a killer looking chant! I’ve never found any of those type before, although I have never hunted them. Here are a few photos of what I’ve found this season. It’s been a good one so far.

I know that I have told you this before, Mr. Anchovy, but your photographs of mushrooms fascinate me. Well done. I will repost this comment in the future.
Thanks Steve. When I wander around in the woods and find these things, it’s as if a door was opening to another world. Before I started looking for mushrooms, I spent my share of time in forests but never really paid much attention to fungi. It’s possible to spot many different species in a single morning.
Gorgeous!
Aren’t those beautiful!
