Every picture tells a story (day 7)

While I was busy watching sparrows today, a blue jay visited one of our feeders. Do you think I was ready with camera in hand? Of course not.

What a beautiful, sunny and mild February day! We took The Partners for a walk down by the lake.

There is a little bit of ice remaining in the yacht club basin but the ice has disappeared from open water, at least for now. George even waded out knee deep at one of the beaches but stopped short of going for a swim.
Dozens of gulls have gathered on the remaining bits of ice.

Please check out Bad Tempered Zombie and London’s Fog for more of the “every picture tells a story” photo challenge.
Jimmy Driftwood was born James Corbitt Morris in 1907. He lived until 1998 and in that time he is said to have written over 6000 songs, over 300 of which were recorded by various people. Among the tunes he wrote was Battle of New Orleans, made famous by Johnny Horton.
Another well known Jimmy Driftwood tune is Tennessee Stud.
Tennessee Stud was well covered. Here is a great version by Johnny Cash….
The first time I heard Tennessee Stud was from a recording by Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. The next time it was Doc Watson. Here’s Doc with Merle and friends.
Finally, here are Chuck Anton and Jim Shroka playing the Jimmy Driftwood / Ramona Jones version of Valley Forge.
This nuthatch came by one of our feeders for breakfast this morning.
