Grooming Day

Today was grooming day for Georgie. Memphis was excused this time around since she is still recovering from her surgery and we didn’t want to risk any re-injury in the tub or standing on the grooming table.

Lorraine, Georgie’s groomer, worked on him for close to 4 hours today….fortunately grooming comes with big hugs. Lorraine always does a fantastic job with our Newfs!

Look at all the fur Georgie left behind today!

Songs about Mining

The other day I posted a version of Sixteen Tons performed by Manitoba Hal. Here’s another song about coal mining by Merle Travis, beautifully performed by The Country Gentlemen.

The Mountain by Steve Earle is another tune related to coal mining. Here it is performed here by Steve Earle along with the late Levon Helm and his band.

And one more….here’s Johnny Cash performing Loading Coal

Positive steps in Long Branch

We received the following notice from Councillor Grimes yesterday, outlining some very positive steps in managing development in our community. For those who have not seen it, I’ve pasted it below. Kudos to Councillor Grimes – this will help even the playing field.

After discussions with the Planning Dept., we feel that the most appropriate way to deal with any future severance applications made before the design guidelines are complete is to request deferral until the applicant holds a meeting with my office, City Planning, and the neighbours to discuss what the most appropriate development for the site is. This will have the dual effect of delaying any of the inevitable appeals to the OMB following a COA refusal, and will help form the basis for the elements we want to see in the Long Branch Design Guidelines.

New Plant Stand

It used to be a light fixture. Now it’s a plant stand.

I installed it this morning, successfully beating the rain. We found the plant stand yesterday, hiding in the back garage at Nice Old Stuff (near the pillars we also brought home, and past the amazing old barn doors we resisted).
