The train song of the day today features Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs…
Off work today, I planned to go fly fishing, but all week I’ve heard dire predictions of rain, rain, rain. So I stayed home. I decided instead to work on the gardens until the rain started, then retreat inside for some reading.
It’s 2:45 now and not a drop of rain. There could be bugs hatching and trout rising right now. On the other hand, the gardens are looking really good.
I know ones and twos of you missed the train song of the day yesterday. It’s back, so you can rest easy. Here’s Gordon Lightfoot, live from back in 1972 singing his Canadian Railroad Trilogy. Still awesome.
This song was commissioned by the CBC to kick off Expo 67. I think it still holds up just fine.
I’ve been looking for morels with no success. Looks like they are later than usual this year. Maybe after a weekend of rain there will be more around. Today, I took a drive up to a forest I forage in during the summer. All I found was a false morel.
The bottom of the cap isn’t attached to the stem. The stem is very thick. The cap is highly irregular, appearing as a lump in the forest.
I did, however, enjoy a nice hike in a beautiful forest.
Salvelinas tells me the mushroom pictured looks like Gyromitra esculenta.
Off to play go tonight with Vox. A little revenge is in order after the job he did on me last time we played.
For those of you waiting on the train song of the day, I’ve declared today to be a train song holiday. Regular programing will continue tomorrow.
Here’s another tune by U. Utah Phillips, the Golden Voice of the Great Southwest, performed by the Dry Branch Fire Squad. This is the Orphan Train and it’s a true story.
That reminds me that rumour has it that my brother the trout, Salvelinas Fontinalis, has taken up the banjo. It’s only fitting that I present him with some banjo jokes, also by the Dry Branch Fire Squad.
Har! The only difference between a banjo and a trampoline…you take your shoes off before you jump on a trampoline.
The CN Tower folks are offering crazy people patrons the opportunity to walk around the outside of the tower, tethered by a cable. My question is, who’s going to clean up? I know I’d lose MY lunch indulging in that silly business.
Would you do it?
After today, I’m taking the rest of the week off. There is much to do…
What’s on your to-do list?
The train song of the day today is performed by Reverend Gary Davis.
