I put up a finch feeder filled with nyjer seed out back about a week ago, and I’m happy to say that several goldfinch found this offering and were enjoying lunch today.

I confess I love train songs. Is that so bad?
Here’s Ken Perlman performing Reuben’s Train (and more) in Ireland.
Here’s a nice square-dancey stringband version of Reuben’s Train by the Hogslop stringband
Bluegrass freaks might say wait a minute, that’s Train 45 and so it is…. Let’s have a listen to the late Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys.
Is it coincidental that the decline of the train song in popular culture coincided with the decline of the American Empire?
We ventured out into the foggy morning with The Partners.

Here is the 11th installment of the Bad Tempered Zombie photo challenge.

These questions were posed on The Shameful Sheep. Changing words like favourite and colour to Canadian spelling.
I was named after my father’s big brother Eugene. I didn’t know my uncle. He left Canada as a young man and moved to America to seek his fortune. When I was growing up, he was living near Chesterton Illinois and before that in Chicago, where he made hand-made violins and violas.
No. It’s all over the place and and at times is unreadable.
Yes

Yep
No way to all that crazy-assed danger/speed/heights stuff.
Of course
I like the simple flavours without chunks wrecking the texture.
Never thought about it. I suspect it depends on the person.
Baseball. I like baseball even though its dreadfully slow. I used to follow it closely until there was a strike quite a few years ago, when the owners and players fought over who got more millions. I liked listening to it in the studio while I worked on paintings because it is so conversational. These days I’m a bandwagon jumper and watch toward the end of season when the Jays do well. I used to follow Canadian football but these days football bores me wherever its played. For some strange reason I cannot explain, I really like watching curling.

Green. This question reminds me I knew a kid in grade school who ate crayons. He preferred the big thick ones to the normal sized crayons, and he liked all the colours equally.
I have a strong memory of being able to smell Mom’s cabbage rolls from a block away, and so that’s a strong comfort food smell for me. I also love the smell of just about any braise enveloping the house. Oh and I love the smell of bbq. We used to have a cat named Jerry who loved the smell of bbq. He would pace back and forth, waiting for it to be ready. Jerry was a street cat. He adopted us when we were living in Little Portugal here in Toronto and he had a serious weakness for Portuguese grilled chicken with hot sauce.
Tuffy P. I called her from Huntsville Ontario yesterday.
Brownish. My beard has turned partly light grey.

I enjoy holidays that include family dinners (whether or not I’m doing the cooking). At Christmas I like to make one or more of the Polish foods we used to have when I was growing up, like meat sticks and cabbage rolls and pierogi.
Beer
For years I worked afternoons/evenings and painted in the studio late after that, so wouldn’t awake until the crack of noon. These days we get up early, and usually go to bed early, although one evening per week I stay up late and play Go.
Since I retired from the work-a-day world, I have no sense time.
I don’t tag people for this kind of thing, but I’d be happy to read your responses. If you decide to answer these questions on your blog, please let me know in the comments here.
What the Frittata!

I made a sculpture (if you can imagine such a thing) by combining and re-purposing unusual objects and adding some paint. I call him Orange Man. The top section can be re-positioned by simply turning it.

Now that I’ve got this out of my system, back to making paintings.
Here’s my latest photo in Bad Tempered Zombie’s photo challenge….
