I plan to periodically post photos of our gardens so I can look back and see what they looked like at different times of the season.
Here’s the big garden in the front yard. Later, Sunflowers will dominate the front of it. There are two serviceberries and a dogwood in the middle that will anchor it. You can’t really see the trellis very well. It’s just to the left of the large rear rock and it has clematis climbing it.
This garden doesn’t always get the attention of the others, but Tuffy P. has done a great job cleaning this one up and weeding it.
We created this little garden last year near the front steps.
It’s semi shady in these gardens and the one on the right tends to be moist.
I’m calling this one the lean-to garden because of the lean-to structure behind it.

This garden received some new rocks today, replacing some of the pre-cast items I originally bordered it with. I had found those back along the fence-line after we moved in.
A plane song or a train song? Here’s Tony Rice covering the Gordon Lightfoot tune, Early Mornin’ Rain.
You can’t jump a big jet plane like you can an old freight train….
My brother the trout, Salvelinas Fontinalis, took me to a top secret morel spot today. How secret was it? It was so secret, I had to drive blindfolded. Secret handshakes were involved.
Some of them were yellow; others were more greyish. Here’s a huge one!
Memphis and Ellie Mae had a ball. They’re both tuckered out now.
We also found loads of ramps and we each brought home a bag of them. These wild leeks are delicious fried up with the morels.
As you can see from this picture of a morel sliced in half, morels are completely hollow inside.
Ellie Mae was ready for a little nap on the deck when we got home.
It’s about time I featured Lefty Frizzell here on the train song of the day. Here’s Railroad Lady
This song was co-written by Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffet.
Here’s J.D. Crowe & the New South
Yep, the railroad is dyin’ and the lady is cryin’.
OK, one more cover…Merle Haggard, complete with sound effects and introduction
Here’s Jim Reeves singing A Railroad Bum, train song #46…
I don’t know a lot of Jim Reeves music. I suppose he’s most famous for singing Put Your Sweet Lips a little Closer to the Phone…
The train song countdown continues. Number 47 is Funky Soul Train by Hank Ballard…
I like this cut a lot. You may know that Hank Ballard was responsible for The Twist.
Back in the 80’s Hank Ballard and the Midnighters came to Toronto and played the Horseshoe Tavern. It was quite a night. The place was packed. Ballard brought a full band including a horn section. They had great outfits and a little choreography happening and they were a hot band. The Horseshoe was hot that night too. I recall it being one sweaty night.
