Countdown?

My brother the trout, Salvelinas Fontinalis, reports that the first morel of the year has been found near Knoxville. As we get into spring, they’ll be found further and further north and should start appearing near Anchovy Town some time in May. This is a light at the end of the tunnel moment that says, yes, spring is really a possibility.

Deer in the GTA

There are a number of deer living in the area that includes the old arsenal lands and Marie Curtis Park. This is basically the area that forms the Southwest corner of the amalgamated Toronto (the former South Etobicoke) and the Southeast corner of Mississauga. Early this morning, I saw three of them as I drove by, standing very near where the bike path emerges, just south of Lakeshore. There is plenty of forest for them in there, as well as a creek, and besides an occasional coyote, there really isn’t much to bother them in there.

Lake Anchovy

The accumulation of snow out behind Anchovy World Headquarters melted away quickly on Monday morning in the pouring rain, ponding in the yard. There is a layer of ice now on beautiful Lake Anchovy. Fortunately we know from experience that the water drains away from the house. As the ground thaws, I’m expecting the water to drain off without incident.

Memphis vs Annie

Memphis and Annie are best pals. They have their own version of “Fight Club” going back to their days as young pups. Just about every evening they get together and go through the same theatre involving flips and take-downs and ear-nibbling and even a little sumo.

Dragon Departing

I confess I’m a sucker for the CBC TV show Dragons’ Den. From the first time I saw it, I thought, well this won’t be very good, or I don’t think I’ll like this, yet I can’t turn it off. I think at the heart of its success is that these guys actually put their dough on the line and buy into all kinds of wacky business ideas. One of the Dragons, Brett Wilson, is leaving. Apparently there were some contract details they couldn’t work out.

Maybe this is a good time for CBC to pack in the show – not because one guy is leaving – but because, as much as I enjoy the show, I think the format is getting tired. How many business ideas and inventions can you look at and keep interested? It seems that on television, many times producers just don’t know when to quit. They have to try to milk every last bit of cashola out of a show, even when everybody knows it’s time to shut it down.

Are there other Dragons’ Den fans out there?
