The Comfort Food Diner

When is a poblano not a poblano?

In our area, I rarely see poblano chiles in our grocery stores, so when I saw them at Starsky’s the other day, I bought a bunch of them. Some went into last night’s soup and the rest I popped into the dehydrator. Dried, poblanos are called anchos, and they’re great in just about anything. I sampled a few of the dried ones and they’re tasty as snacks. I was surprised at how variable the heat is from one chile to another. Some are totally mild, others have a bit of heat, and a few of them offer up more heat than you’d expect.

You Win Again

This tune was written and recorded by Hank Williams in 1952. Jerry Lee Lewis covered it in 1957 on the B side of Great Balls of Fire. Here’s a great version by Paul Brady, who will be performing at Hugh’s Room here in Toronto on the 30th (we’ll be there!)

2:06

The alarm jarred me out of deep sleep. I reached over to kill the beep and drew the clock close to my face. 5:18. Ok, up in a minute. I dozed off, then awoke again with a start. 5:26. Alright, alright, I’m up I’m up I’m up already.

Sitting up. 5:32. Ok. Getting mobile.

Brushed my teeth. Flossed. Shaved. Look at that crazy eyebrow hair. How did it get that long?.

Long hot shower. That’s what the Dr. ordered. Why am I so tired this morning?

Back in the bedroom, fishing around the closet in the dark for some clothes. Wait a second here. Why is it still so dark? Checked the clock – 2:06.

2:06?

Hey it smells like you just took a shower.”
